POSITION OVERVIEW
Act as strategic thought partner to the leadership team and external facing staff, shaping MISO’s story on key matters, maximizing the reach of corporate messages and furthering MISO’s thought leadership efforts.  Provide support to MISO personnel engaged in external interactions on key strategic matters. Translate complex and highly technical subject matter into understandable information that can be used in interactions with various constituencies across MISO footprint.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Relationship Building / Customer Service
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal customers and subject matter experts to collaborate on key issues and to stay abreast of key matters/issues impacting the business.
  • Serve as a consultant/advisor to staff in other departments and for projects/initiatives to shape MISO’s messaging and outreach strategy to support the company’s strategic vision.
Content Development and Management
  • Translate complex, technical information into content that is understandable by audiences of differing levels of sophistication, including:
    • Presentations
    • Talking Points
    • Q&A
    • Background Information
    • Policy Papers
    • Maintain internal website providing broad access to strategic communications, messaging, and supporting content on key matters.
    • Monitor the external landscape for intelligence/information that could inform and/or impact MISO's business and disseminate information internally as appropriate.
Strategic Advising / Input
  • Enhance MISO’s presence/reach and reputation as an industry thought leader.
  • Provide strategic input and guidance to shape communication plans and approaches on key issues to clearly communicate MISO’s perspective/insights, build our brand and to mitigate reputational risk.
  • Facilitate and contribute to internal discussions that drive to consensus and decisions on policy and MISO positions, ensuring all appropriate perspectives are represented and considered, and alignment with MISO’s corporate strategy and direction.
Leadership Support
  • Support the strategic communications related needs of executive leadership for external speaking engagements, key meetings and industry events. This includes, but is not limited to, developing talking points, messaging strategy, background information and presentations.
General Responsibilities
  • Professionally exercises discretion and independent judgment in day-to-day work.
  • Compliance with all MISO and regulatory agency processes, procedures, and standards applicable to the position.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Communications, Engineering, Business, Political Science or related field is preferred.  Other degrees will be considered based on equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of six years of related experience (required)
  • Previous energy industry experience (preferred)
 Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge
